Have you ever seen "Mrs. Byrnes Dictionary of Universal, obscure, and preposterous words"? very cool book.
Also there's "2107 Curious Word Origins, sayings, and expressions," which has an interesting little tidbit on my surname... but i don't know if it has anything on the doubly done topic at hand.
